By using less energy, compact fluorescent lamps cost a lot less to operate. Compact fluorescents lamps can last up to 13 times longer than incandescent, and save 70-80% in energy costs.
The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that if everyone used high efficiency lighting products, like compact fluorescent lights, we could reduce the amount of electricity needed for lighting by 50%.
Here is a fact that may surprise you: If every U.S. household makes their next light an Energy Star, the environmental benefit would be equivalent to removing 1.2 million cars from the road for one year!
So this year, participate in Change a Light, Change the World.
How to receive the rebate?
Purchase an Energy Star labeled compact fluorescent lamp. Bring your receipt for the lamp, the Energy Star logo from the package and your Austin Utilities electricity bill to the Austin Utilities Office to receive a rebate or 50% of bulb or package cost for each lamp.
